August updates from EVIT Superintendent's Office
We change lives
Welcome to our first edition of the EVIT Superintendent’s “Changing Lives” Update. Every day, EVIT prepares students to become our future workforce in fields such as construction, health care, criminal justice and more. By serving our community, loving our students and giving them the skills and work ethic to succeed we are literally changing their lives. But none of that would be possible without our partnerships with schools and industry. Together, we are working as one to make sure every EVIT student can be successful in career and college. Together, we are changing lives.

Bringing home the gold
Congratulations to two of our students in the EVIT Career Technical Education District (CTED) who placed first in the nation this summer in their CTE organizations. Michelove Shively, who completed EVIT’s Fashion Design & Merchandising program in the spring, won a gold medal in fashion design at the national FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) competition. And, Rebekah Planek, a stagecraft student at Queen Creek High School, was recognized as best in the nation in costume construction at the International Thespian Festival.

Supporting teachers
This year, EVIT has two new instructional specialists to support our wonderful career and technical education teachers. The great thing about our teachers is that they come from industry and are able to share their invaluable wealth of experience with students. But often, they have never taught before. So instructional specialists Jon Howell and Mia Merrick are helping ease the transition from industry to classroom. Thank you to the EVIT CTED governing board for making it possible for us to provide our teachers with this support.

Spotlight on satellites
In addition to our central campus programs, the EVIT CTED also provides funding for CTE programs in the high schools of our 11 school districts. This year, we would like to feature our satellite programs on our new EVIT CTED Facebook page -- https://www.facebook.com/EVITCTED/ -- and other social media as part of Dr. Wilson’s “Changing Lives” tour.  East Valley school districts and satellite programs: Contact CeCe Todd at [email protected] or 480-461-4032 if you would like our satellite spotlight to shine on you!

Off to a great start
We’ve had a record enrollment at our four EVIT campuses this month – more than 4,800 high school and adult students – and a good start to the 2019-20 school year. Some of our school districts sent buses even when their own schools had not started yet, our facilities crew did a terrific job of getting everything ready on time, and all staff pulled together to ensure the first day went off without a hitch. When we work together, there is really nothing we can’t do. So here’s to a great year where all of us come together to make EVIT and the EVIT CTED the best they can be at changing lives.
