EVIT Expo
We are just 8 days away from our annual EVIT Expo. In addition to trolley tours of the Main Campus and access to all EVIT programs, guests can ride the Industrial Trades Express train to our Industrial Trades programs and enjoy food from the EVIT Culinary Arts program & Bistro 13, as well as several food trucks, including Waffle Crush, Pork on a Fork, Mama Lita’s Soda Bar and French Fries with a Twist. Most EVIT programs will also provide activities and services, such as free massages by Massage Therapy and hair styling by Cosmetology. Expo is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Main Campus. Special shout-out to East Valley high school counselors for helping promote Expo to their students!

#1Team4Uganda
Also at EVIT Expo, we will hold the ribbon-cutting kickoff for our #1Team4Uganda project. EVIT and several businesses are on a team in a Battle of the Boxes competition sponsored by Pipeline Worldwide. Each team is creating housing out of shipping containers for medical workers in Uganda. Students in EVIT’s Construction, 3D Animation, Graphic/Web Design, Interior Design & Fashion Design programs have been working alongside construction and architect companies to design the container. At 10 a.m. at EVIT Expo, we will celebrate the kickoff of the construction phase. This project is part of our emphasis this year to change lives. Thank you to Mesa Chamber of Commerce for helping promote the kickoff!

EVIT Governing Board
This week, we welcomed Lynn Burnham of Mesa to our EVIT Governing Board. Mr. Burnham is filling out the current term of District 4, which became vacant when Carolyn Crandell resigned last semester. For another seat vacancy – District 8, from which Dolores Watkins recently resigned – the board sent the names of three applicants to the Maricopa County Superintendent, who will appoint someone to fill the District 8 term.

New leadership
Speaking of the EVIT Governing Board, this week, Ronda Doolen of Mesa was elected President and Shelli Boggs of Queen Creek was elected Board Clerk for 2020. Congrats to Ms. Doolen and Ms. Boggs, both of whom are former employees of EVIT.

Redistricting EVIT CTED boundaries
EVIT is currently redistricting as a result of the addition of the Cave Creek Unified School District to the EVIT CTED this year. Three public meetings were scheduled to explain the process. The first was held Jan. 13 at the Main Campus. The next meeting will be 6-7 p.m., Jan. 27 at the EVIT Fountain Hills Campus, 17300 E. Calaveras, and the third will be 6-7 p.m., Feb. 10 at the EVIT East Campus, 6625 S. Power Road., Mesa. We ask that our East Valley Superintendents and Governing Boards please help share this information with their communities. For more information and to complete a public input form, visit the Redistricting page on the EVIT website:  https://bit.ly/2NAGN7I
