Thank you, Aviation partners!

The Aviation program at EVIT’s East Campus recently received several large tool and parts containers from Boeing that will be very useful as the program grows and moves into its new facility as part of the East Campus construction project. Aviation is a great example of how partnerships build career training programs. Boeing is one of several industry partners to the program, which offers a degree pathway in partnership with Chandler-Gilbert Community College and the University of North Dakota flight school.

2020-21 registration

EVIT is currently registering students for the 2020-21 school year. A number of programs are filling up very quickly. We urge our sending high schools to use our new online application – https://www.evit.com/enroll -- to help ensure their students’ timely enrollment into the program of their choice. Schools that need assistance in registering students should contact recruiter Cassi Perez at [email protected] or recruiter James Martinez at [email protected]. We appreciate our sending school districts and charter schools for all they do to help students attend EVIT.

Foundation breakfast

Table sponsorships and ticket sales are currently under way for the EVIT Foundation gourmet breakfast fundraiser, which will feature keynote speaker Gov. Doug Ducey. The foundation is a 501(c)3 that provides financial assistance to low-income EVIT students who need help in paying their program fees. Since first being announced, the date for the breakfast has been changed to 7 a.m., April 1 in the Culinary Banquet Hall at the EVIT Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. To sponsor a table, contact Jo Wilson at [email protected]. To purchase individual tickets, visit https://evitfoundation.org/event

Redistricting update

The EVIT Career Technical Education District is in the process of redrawing governing board district boundaries due to the addition of the Cave Creek Unified School District to the CTED last year. Options for new boundary maps will be presented to the EVIT Governing Board on March 16 and then posted on the EVIT website for public comment. For more information about the redistricting process, visit https://bit.ly/3cAwZW9

New board member

LaMar Watkins was recently appointed by Maricopa County Superintendent Steve Watson to fill out the current District 8 seat term of his wife, Dolores Watkins, who resigned last year. Mr. Watkins worked for over 30 years as a high school teacher and retired as an assistant principal at Apache Junction High School. He has also taught at Rio Salado College, Central Arizona College and Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Mrs. Watkins was recognized for her many years of service to EVIT at the Feb. 24 governing board meeting. Thank you, Dolores, and welcome to the team, LaMar!
