EVIT has welcomed two new staff members to be our leaders on the front lines of helping mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses: Registered Nurse Ashley Goff and Registered Medical Assistant Molly Burke. Ashley, who has nine years of experience as an RN, and Molly, who has 22 years of experience as a medical assistant, are responsible for tracking any instances of COVID-19 at the Main Campus and East Campus respectively. They will be the main points of contact for students, parents and staff who are experiencing COVID-19-like symptoms or have tested positive for the virus, and they will report all cases to Maricopa County Public Health. Welcome, Ashley and Molly!

When students complete their career training at EVIT, most test for an industry certification or license. But this year’s program completers will leave EVIT with more than skills and a certificate. Every day, they are not only learning industry skills to do the job – but also how to do the job during a pandemic with extra safety precautions and restrictions. They are learning how to persevere and will leave EVIT in the spring with the grit to thrive in challenging times. Congratulations to EVIT’s Emergency Medical Technician program for winning a $5,000 grant from CenturyLink to purchase Chromebooks for students to use in the EMT and health sciences programs. CenturyLink awarded $500,000 to fund 114 technology-focused projects in schools across the nation as part of the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s 2019-20 Teachers and Technology grant program. Instructor Justin Lisonbee applied for the grant on EVIT’s behalf. Great job, Justin -- and thank you, CenturyLink!

We love hearing how our students are doing after they leave EVIT. For the Aviation program at our East Campus, it’s particularly gratifying to hear who got their pilot’s license. Sage Nelson and Nick Leyva earned their wings this summer. Both students completed the EVIT Aviation program & graduated from Gilbert’s Highland High School in 2019. Congrats to Sage, Nick and EVIT Aviation instructor Lou Amadee!
