The East Valley Institute of Technology’s East Campus, 6625 S. Power Road in southeast Mesa, has a new name: EVIT Power Campus. In October, the Governing Board decided to rename the campus, which is located in Mesa’s Power Knowledge Corridor.

“I believe the name change is very significant,” said Power Campus Principal John Corsaro. “The change to Power Campus gives us our own identity and we no longer sound like an extension of the Main Campus.”

The new name comes at the same time that an approximate $38 million expansion project is under way to accommodate the campus’ booming enrollment in aviation, engineering, cosmetology, health-care and veterinary programs. The Power Campus expansion is expected to be completed in the 2021-22 school year.

“I can’t emphasize enough how important this expansion is. We are currently filled to our max,” Corsaro said. “Without the expansion, we would almost assuredly have to turn students away in the near future, which goes against our philosophy to change lives by loving our students and serving our community.”

Corsaro estimated the Power Campus will double the number of students it serves, which is now about 1,000 students, once the expansion is complete.

He said the campus name change aligns with Mesa’s Power Knowledge Corridor, which also includes ASU Polytechnic and Chandler-Gilbert Community College. That, combined with the campus expansion, will enhance the EVIT brand as an educational leader in the East Valley.
