EVIT culinary students win gold medals at state competition

Students in The Culinary School at EVIT won four gold medals in the Arizona Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state competition, and three students qualified to go on to the national competition.

In the Culinary STAR event, gold medalists and national qualifiers included: Devan Derouin, a senior from Williams Field High School, and adult students Anthony Rapsawatdi and Annastacia Grodecki. Williams Field senior Isabella Mackenzie earned a silver medal.

In the Cupcake Decorating Proficiency Competition, Mackenzie Zollner, a senior from Highland High School, won a gold medal and Clair Nugent, a junior from Queen Creek High School, won a bronze medal.

The Culinary School at EVIT offers three career training programs – Culinary Arts, Commercial Baking & Pastry Arts, and Hospitality Management – and multiple college and career pathways.

The East Valley Institute of Technology offers over 40 career training programs tuition-free for East Valley high school students and tuition-based for adults. Enrollment for 2021-22 is under way. To start the enrollment process, go to www.evit.com/enroll.

EVIT students have a 98 percent graduation rate, 2 out of 3 go on to college and approximately 94 percent are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year of completing their programs.
