Superintendent's Update - August 2021

EVIT Superintendent Update

Welcome to 2021-22!
The 2021-22 school year is officially under way at the East Valley Institute of Technology’s two central campuses in Mesa and branch campus at Apache Junction High School. Nearly 5,000 students began arriving Monday for another year of career and technical education. Our enrollment includes over 3,000 new students. Welcome to EVIT!

Building EVIT
The build-out of our Power Campus in southeast Mesa is in full swing. The new Aviation building, including a plane hangar, should be completed by January, and the Veterinary Sciences and Engineering expansion by next August. Renovations for the Health Sciences and Cosmetology should also be finished by next August, and the third building expansion at Power is expected to begin in the 2022-23 school year. Meanwhile, renovations of the Main Campus are scheduled to begin this year with completion by the end of 2022-23.

Tools for Success
Last week, eight alumni who completed their Automotive and Diesel Technologies training in May were awarded tools and toolboxes valued at $2,500 each by the EVIT Education Foundation. The students were selected to receive the toolboxes based on their attendance, grades and overall performance in their EVIT program. A “Tools for Success” grant from the foundation covered the cost of the toolboxes, including a wide assortment of high-quality tools to use as they begin their careers in the auto industry.

Helping foster youth
EVIT has created a customized GED program for youth in foster care to not only obtain their GED or High School Equivalency Diploma, but to also begin their journey in a career field. The Foster Youth Career Program assists students who are credit deficient in obtaining their GED or HSED while pursuing a certification in an EVIT program. Students work on their online GED prep classes in a lab at the EVIT Main Campus, where an in-person instructor can assist them. The cost of EVIT career training courses are included in the $100 program fee. Financial assistance is available. For more information, contact program coordinator Jaron Neal at [email protected].

Enrollment continues
Even as classes have started, we are still receiving applications and continuing to enroll students for 2021-22. We appreciate the counselors in our sending high schools who are continuing to help students select an EVIT program and finalize their enrollment. Thank you!
