EVIT Superintendent Update

Update – CTED associate degrees

Last week, Gov. Doug Ducey signed House Bill 2034 into law giving Arizona’s Career Technical Education Districts (CTEDs) the authority to offer associate degrees for programs on the state’s high demand list.  EVIT will now begin the process of seeking accreditation approval and hiring additional faculty to offer our first degree in the 2023-24 school year. EVIT plans to offer an associate degree in Registered Nursing first, followed by Industrial Trades.

2022 Completion Ceremonies

Planning is under way for this year’s Completion Ceremonies at the Chicago Cubs spring training stadium in Mesa. The ceremony for the Power and Apache Junction campuses will be 7 p.m., May 16, and the ceremony for the Main Campus will be 7 p.m., May 17. Over 2,000 high school students and adults are completing EVIT programs this year.

EVIT in the news

The first EVIT Auto Skills Challenge for East Valley automotive students was featured on FOX10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgLQf-WphTo. And, Jaron Neal, director of foster youth services, was interviewed on AZTV Channel 7 about EVIT’s program that allows youth transitioning out of the foster care system to receive career training while earning their GED: https://www.aztv.com/posts/foster-care-initiative-evit.

Elementary field trips

Over 70 third-graders from Mesa’s Adams Elementary School recently toured the EVIT Main Campus to learn more about career programs in radio/audio production, criminal justice, medical assistant, physical therapy, culinary arts, early childhood education, fire science and diesel technologies. Adams teachers said the students loved their field trip and can’t wait to attend EVIT in eight years. Students from the STEM program at Mesa’s Las Sendas Elementary School are visiting EVIT on Tuesday. If you know of an elementary school that would like to tour EVIT, please have them contact Tarnisha Tilson at [email protected].
