EVIT students brought home four gold medals and 11 other medals and placements in national and international competitions this summer to test the skills they have learned at the East Valley Institute of Technology.

At the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) national conference in San Diego, students in EVIT’s Fashion Design & Merchandising program earned two gold medals. Brenna Gentner won gold in Event Management, and the team of Gianna Breinig, Daniela Velasquez and Cara Schafer won gold in Promote & Publicize FCCLA.

At the HOSA Future Health Professionals international conference in Nashville, Angelina Palmison won gold in Pharmacy Science (Postsecondary) and Gillian Boggs won gold in Veterinary Science. EVIT’s HOSA chapter was also recognized as the top school in the nation for raising money for the HOSA national service project, Be the Match.

Other HOSA medalists included: Allison Lumley, Silver, Medical Assistant (Post-secondary); Shelby McKeon, Silver, Pharmacy Science (Postsecondary); and Ava Crawford, Bronze, Veterinary Science. The team of Jesus Higuera, Nomeo Lewis, Sabina Martinez Sosa and Khindle Morris placed 8th in the HOSA Bowl, Ximena Trejo Juarez placed in the Top 10 for Nursing Assistant, Charles Mann placed in Top 10 for Pharmacy Science and the team of Hannah Kelter and Genaveve Cheatham placed in the Top 25 for Emergency Medical Technician.

At the Educators Rising national conference in Washington, DC, Early Childhood Education student Kate Tammaro placed 3rd in Lesson Planning Design and Delivery – Humanities.

At the SkillsUSA national conference in Atlanta, GA, the EVIT team of Carina Miranda and Kaitlyn Pacura won a bronze medal in 3D Visualization & Animation (College), and Lexi West won Bronze in Cosmetology (High School).
