The East Valley Institute of Technology has two new members who will begin serving on the EVIT Governing Board this month. Dr. Laura Metcalfe and Peter Boyle, along with incumbents Shelli Boggs and Amber McAffee were sworn in by Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson in December.

Dr. Metcalfe has 27 years of education experience and a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. She is also a former EVIT instructor and has additional experience as a career and technical education (CTE) director, high school principal, special education director and more. She is a board member of ROSAmerica (Revealing Origin Stories of America) and the Mesa Preservation Foundation and serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster youth. She also serves on numerous other community service boards.

Mr. Boyle is the director of educational leadership and innovation at the Center for the Future of Arizona. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina and a master’s degree in secondary education from Arizona State University. He was the founding director of a high-performing charter school in Phoenix, and recently finished his EdLEADers Certificate from Stanford University. Mr. Boyle is a member of the Board of Trustees of Scottsdale Arts, the Scottsdale Arts Education & Outreach Task Force, and co-chair of the Next Generation Young Professionals Leadership Board of Scottsdale Arts.

Mrs. Boggs and Mrs. McAffee were unopposed in the 2022 election.

The first governing board meeting of 2023 will be Monday, Jan. 9.
