EVIT students brought home 18 medals – including six gold – from the 2021 Arizona SkillsUSA competition.

The medalists represented seven EVIT programs: Radio/Audio Production, Fire Science, Graphic/Web Design, Aesthetics, Diesel Technologies, Collision Repair and Cosmetology.

In the Audio/Radio competition, Marc Baca, senior from Mountain Pointe High School, and Jacob Henderson, senior from Desert Vista High School, won gold. Elizabeth Gustafson, senior from Chaparral High School, and Ryann Stanage, a senior from Desert Ridge High School, were awarded the bronze medal.

In Firefighting, Jacob Manoguerra, a senior from Desert Vista, won silver and Juho Jo, a senior from Desert Vista, won bronze.

In the SkillsUSA Pin Design Challenge, a silver medal was awarded to Savannah Gillette-Smith, a Combs High School junior in EVIT’s Graphic/Web Design program.

In Esthetics, the medals were swept by a trio of juniors from three Mesa high schools in EVIT’s Aesthetics program: Gold – Isabel Magliba (Mountain View), Silver -- Monique Valencia (Westwood) and Bronze -- Mariyah Hadley (Mesa High).

In the Diesel Equipment Technology competition, Gavin Smith, a junior from Casteel High School, won gold; Kendrek Marrero, a senior from Mountain Pointe, won silver; and adult student Jonathan Polhemus won bronze.

In Collision Repair Technology, Ryan Roger, a junior from Queen Creek won gold, and adult students Jorge Aguayo and Elijah Torres took silver and bronze.

In Cosmetology, Caitlyn Ashdown, a senior from Highland High School, won gold; Aubriel Campbell, a senior from Chandler High School, silver; and Brooklyn Smith, a senior from Benjamin Franklin Charter High School, bronze.

In Photography (Post-Secondary), adult student Ethan Gray won the gold medal.

EVIT students have a 98 percent high school graduation rate, 2 out of 3 go on to college and approximately 94 percent are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year of completing their programs.
