New survey: East Valley parents give EVIT high marksA new survey shows that nearly 99% of EVIT parents would recommend the East Valley Institute of Technology to other families.

In addition, over 94% of parents gave EVIT an ‘A’ or ‘B’ for how the school has handled safety protocols, communication and other issues related to COVID-19, and over 96% graded their family’s experience with EVIT this year as an ‘A’ or ‘B’.

The survey, which was emailed to parents at the end of January, has a 95% confidence level and 4% margin of error, according to SurveyMonkey.

Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson presented the results to the EVIT Governing Board during Monday night’s meeting. He said that while the survey shows much to celebrate, the comments from parents also point to areas where EVIT can improve.

For example, a number of parents commented that EVIT needs to give families more timely information about the dual enrollment college credit available in their student’s program. Some parents also requested more information about lessons and activities going on in their student’s class.

Nearly 60% of parents said their student had not experienced any barriers or challenges to attending EVIT, while over 17% said transportation was an issue and nearly 15% reported that scheduling at their home school was a challenge.

EVIT provides over 40 career training programs tuition-free to public, charter, private and home-schooled students who reside in 11 East Valley school districts. Tuition-based programs for adults are also offered, with financial aid available in some programs for those who qualify.

The results of the 2021 parent survey improved compared to one year ago. For example, the percentage grading their family’s experience with EVIT as an ‘A’ or ‘B’ jumped from approximately 85% last year to over 96% this year.

Dr. Wilson commended the EVIT staff for all they have done this year to keep the Main and Power campuses open for in-person learning during the pandemic. He said the survey results show that during a difficult year, parents are not finding their experience with EVIT to be difficult.

EVIT students have a 98% high school graduation rate, 2 out of 3 go on to college and 94% are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year of completing their program.
