The Early Childhood Education program at the East Valley Institute of Technology has partnered with Mesa Community College to offer students the college’s Certificate of Completion in Foundations of Early Childhood Education.

The 19-credit certificate is taught by EVIT instructor Paula Corbin and offered through dual enrollment and concurrent enrollment at MCC. Students who complete the two-year program at EVIT will graduate from high school with a diploma, an EVIT completion certificate and an MCC certificate.

Through the Professional Career Pathways Scholarship Program, funding pays for the students’ college tuition, fees and textbooks. The MCC certificate also can be used toward fulfilling requirements in MCC’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Thirty-one students in Ms. Corbin’s program have received $27,185 in scholarships to participate.

“This is an amazing opportunity that was brought to me by Dr. Annapurna Ganesh at MCC,” Ms. Corbin said.

Enrollment for the 2021-22 school year is currently under way. To enroll, visit www.evit.com/enroll.

EVIT provides tuition-free career training to high school students – public, charter, private and home-schooled – who reside in 11 East Valley school districts. Tuition-based programs for adults are also offered, with financial aid available in some programs for students who qualify.

EVIT students have a 98 percent high school graduation rate and 2 out of 3 go on to college. Within a year of completing their training, 94 percent are in jobs related to their training, college or the military.
