EVIT News Parents Can Use - Feb./Mar. 2021

Hello, EVIT parents! This is the fifth in a series of newsletters to give you more information about the East Valley Institute of Technology and how your son or daughter can get the most out of their career and technical education. Today’s topic: Continuing education.

EVIT offers many opportunities for students to continue their education after they graduate from high school.

CTED Completer Grants
For the past several years, state funding has been provided for high school students who graduate before completing their EVIT training so they can come back as an adult student and finish their program tuition-free. While next year’s state budget has not been finalized yet, it’s looking likely that the CTED Completer Grants will be funded again next year. If your son or daughter is graduating high school this spring and has completed at least half of their EVIT program, they could qualify for a completer grant if approved by the Legislature. To get your student on a list of students who might be interested in the CTED Completer Grant, please email [email protected]

Adult programs
EVIT offers 12 tuition-based career training programs for adults: Aesthetics, Collision Repair, Cosmetology, George Brazil Plumbing Service & Repair Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR), Massage Therapy, Nursing Assistant, Practical Nurse, Sterile Processing Technician, Surgical Technology and Welding. Financial aid is available in some programs, and Veterans Administration benefits are also accepted. In addition, the EVIT Foundation, a private 501(c)3 organization, provides financial assistance to adults who need help paying tuition.

Adults are also welcome to enroll in EVIT’s high school programs if space is available. They do have to pay tuition, but can apply for EVIT Foundation assistance.

Adding more skills
Is your high school student completing their EVIT program this spring? They might want to consider returning to EVIT next year as an adult student to learn additional skills and earn more industry certifications to help them on their career path. For example, high school students completing Aesthetics in May and earning their Aesthetics license might come back in August to take the Massage Therapy program and earn a massage therapist license. The combination can help them if they are interested in pursuing a career at a spa or resort. Another example: Students completing EVIT’s Construction Technologies program in May should consider coming back as an adult student in August to take our new Electrical and Power Transmission Installation program to earn more skills and certifications that make them even more employable in the construction industry.

Virtual EVIT Expo
EVIT has so many career training opportunities for the whole family. Even though you already have a student at EVIT, consider signing up for our Virtual EVIT Expo in April to learn more about what we have to offer. The expo is spread out over six nights in April and you can sign up for as many nights as you wish. Register here: www.evit.com/expo.

Hannah’s story
A year of training in EVIT’s Massage Therapy program was all it took to launch alum Hannah Johansson into a career right after high school. She has worked as a licensed massage therapist ever since at a spa in Gilbert, and now she is training to become a doula so she can start her own perinatal massage business. Enrollment for 2021-22
We have started enrolling for next school year. If your son or daughter plans to return to EVIT next year, they will take a brief survey in class and that will be all they need to do to re-enroll. EVIT will send their information to their high school for scheduling purposes, and no other paperwork or documentation will be needed.

EVIT is a school of choice. Students often tell us they love EVIT because our students choose to be here. It’s not just another class to fill out a schedule. They enjoy being at a school with classmates and teachers who share their interest and passion for a particular career or industry. If you know of other families with students who would thrive by choosing EVIT, we hope you will share with them that we are now enrolling. Please encourage them to visit www.evit.com/enroll.
