Like most American college students, Faith Dille is working while going to school. But thanks to the career training she received at the East Valley Institute of Technology, her job is in her field of study, providing a paycheck and valuable experience at the same time.
“I have been working since I was 15 years old in all different types of jobs as a young teen. But now I am working in a field I love,” said Dille, 19, who completed
EVIT’s Early Childhood Education program in 2021 and is now working toward an associate degree at Mesa Community College.
Dille is one of many EVIT alumni who work while they are in college after completing one of EVIT’s tuition-free high school programs. EVIT students receive hands-on training and earn certifications and licenses that make them employable right after graduation. Learn more at

In 2022, 42% of EVIT students surveyed said their plans were to go to college and work while in school in a job where they could use the skills they learned at EVIT. For some students, this is a practical way to help pay for college; for others, it provides an income while also giving them experience they can put on a resume. Experts say it also helps them learn how to lead a balanced life with multiple responsibilities and activities.
Dille works as an assistant pre-kindergarten teacher at The Goddard School from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and then takes her MCC classes online at night. “It gets tough at times to be a full-time teacher and student, but at the end of the day I know there is light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
Dille got a head-start on her MCC education through a partnership that allows EVIT’s Early Childhood Education students to earn MCC’s 19-credit Certificate of Completion in Foundations of Early Childhood Education through dual and concurrent enrollment. In addition, the students receive a Professional Career Pathways Scholarship that pays for their college tuition, fees and textbooks. The MCC certificate can then be used toward MCC’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education. After she completes her associate degree, Dille plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education: Dual Language.
“EVIT is a program I am so grateful for and thankful that I was able to attend,” Dille said. “My EVIT teacher, Paula Corbin, is someone I want to give recognition to because she helped my class get so much granted to us and helped me get the job I have today.”
EVIT instructors have experience in the field they teach, and so are able to not only teach the practical skills, but also to mentor students so they have a good understanding of the field in which they will work.
EVIT offers 39 high school career training programs and a dozen post-secondary programs for adults at two central campuses in Mesa and a branch campus at Apache Junction High School. In 2023-24, EVIT will begin offering associate degrees in high-demand fields.
EVIT students have a 98% high school graduation rate. In 2022 surveys, 95% of students said they would recommend EVIT to a friend and 98% of parents said they would recommend EVIT to other families.
