A step closer to a degree
Seventeen students in EVIT’s Early Childhood Education program recently learned that they have been awarded over $8,000 in First Things First scholarships to help pay for their first- and second-year education at Mesa Community College. The students are dual enrolled at MCC, but many of them could not have afforded the tuition and fees without the scholarships. Thank you, First Things First, Arizona Early Childhood Workforce Registry and MCC for making it possible for EVIT students to follow a pathway to an associate degree while still in high school!

Westwood CTE
We recently toured CTE satellite programs in manufacturing, engineering and agricultural science at Mesa’s Westwood High School. The equipment in manufacturing was first-rate, the engineering students were so engaged in their learning they barely looked up when we walked in, and our tour of the ag program included free eggs! But truly, the best part of the day was being able to talk with Mesa CTE staff about how we can work together to ensure all students have access to quality career and technical education. EVIT is proud to be #OneTeam with Mesa Public Schools.

And, speaking of working together
EVIT counselor Jimmy Brady has been working closely with counselors at Mesa’s East Valley Academy and Riverview High School to see if we can identify more students from those schools who would be good candidates to attend CTE programs at EVIT despite having low GPAs.  Thank you to Marlo Loria, Mesa’s executive director for innovative partnerships, for getting the ball rolling on this. EVIT’s mission is to change lives by loving our students and serving our community – and nothing fits that goal more than trying to help all students be successful.

Emotional reunion

Need something to brighten your day? Take a look at this video of Paige Haag, a junior from Chandler’s Basha High School in our Commercial Baking & Pastry Arts program, as she is reunited with her brother, Brian Haag Jr., who has been away from home serving in the U.S. Air Force: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urPkEW63VAY&feature=youtu.be Thank you, Brian, for your service to our country!
