LaMar Watkins of Mesa has been appointed by Maricopa County Schools Superintendent Steve Watson to the District 8 seat on the EVIT Career and Technical Education District Governing Board. Mr. Watkins will fill out the term of his wife, Dolores Watkins, who resigned her seat last semester after serving on the board for many years.

Mr. Watkins has lived in Mesa his entire life and has attended EVIT board meetings dating back to when EVIT was located at the old downtown Mesa High School campus.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry education, master’s in mathematics and EdS in school administration. He is a dissertation short of a PhD in school administration.

Mr. Watkins worked for over 30 years as a high school teacher and retired as an assistant principal at Apache Junction High School. He has also taught at Rio Salado College, Central Arizona College and Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

Mr. Watkins was sworn in on Feb. 10 by County Superintendent Watson. The District 8 seat is one of four EVIT governing board seats that will be up for election later this year.

EVIT is currently going through a redistricting process to redraw governing board boundaries due to the addition of the Cave Creek Unified School District to the EVIT CTED this year. For more information, visit the Redistricting page on the EVIT website.
