First day of school
EVIT students return for the 2021-22 school year on Aug. 2. Teachers are in orientation training this week and next to prepare and EVIT’s facilities crew is busy working to make sure classrooms and labs are ready to go. We are expecting to have nearly 5,000 students at our Main, Power and Apache Junction campuses when school starts.
New admissions director
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Tiffannie Sechrist, Ed.D., as EVIT’s new Director of Admissions. Dr. Sechrist comes to EVIT from Arizona Agribusiness & Equine Center charter school, where she served as assistant principal and acting principal. She also oversaw EVIT satellite programs in the Queen Creek Unified School District for six years as the district’s Career & Technical Education director. Dr. Sechrist holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Masters of Education from Arizona State University, and earned her Bachelors of Science in Business and Marketing Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Welcome to EVIT, Dr. Sechrist!
National culinary winners
Two EVIT students recently took top honors at the national Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition. Anthony Rapsawatdi, an adult Culinary Arts student, took first place in the Post-Secondary Culinary Arts event, and Annastacia Grodecki, an adult student who completed EVIT’s culinary program in May, placed third. Congrats, Anthony and Annastacia!
EVIT HOSA honored
EVIT’s student chapter of HOSA Future Health Professionals was recognized this summer for raising $27,000 for HOSA’s national service project. EVIT health students raised more money than any other HOSA chapter in the nation for Be the Match, a national nonprofit donor program for bone marrow and blood stem cell transplantation. For several years, EVIT’s HOSA chapter has provided the largest financial contribution to the HOSA national service project. Great job!
Changing lives for 30 years
The East Valley Institute of Technology first opened its doors to East Valley high school students who wanted to learn a trade 30 years ago. Today, EVIT has two central campuses in Mesa – the Main Campus and Power Campus – and a branch campus at Apache Junction High School, adult education programs as well as high school programs, and satellite CTE classes in the high schools of 11 East Valley school districts. Throughout the year, we will be sharing stories of those whose lives have been changed by their EVIT experience. Have a story to share?
