Early Childhood/MCC partnership
EVIT’s Early Childhood Education program has partnered with Mesa Community College to offer students the college’s Certificate of Completion in Foundations of Early Childhood Education. The 19-credit certificate is taught by EVIT instructor Paula Corbin through dual enrollment and concurrent enrollment at MCC. Students who complete the two-year program at EVIT will graduate from high school with a diploma, an EVIT completion certificate and an MCC certificate. And best of all: Through the Professional Career Pathways Scholarship Program, funding pays for the students’ college tuition, fees and textbooks. The MCC certificate also can be used toward fulfilling requirements in MCC’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Thirty-one students in Ms. Corbin’s program have received $11,005 in scholarships to participate.

National radio awards
Congratulations to students in EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program who were nominated as finalists for 18 awards in the 2019-2020 John Drury High School Radio Awards for their work at EVIT’s radio station, 88.7FM The Pulse. They were nominated in the following categories: Best Newcast, Best Public Affairs Show, Best Sports Play-by-Play, Best Podcast, Best Promo, Best Public Service Announcement, and Best Drama. The Pulse is a finalist for Best Use of Social Media and the station’s website – www.pulseradio.fm – is a finalist in the Best Website category. Winners will be announced during a virtual live ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Wishes for Teachers
Five EVIT instructors have each been awarded a $2,500 grant by the Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers program to enhance the classroom experience of their students. Health careers teacher Jerry Coy will use his grant to purchase Chromebooks, Video Production teacher Bruce Haseley will upgrade studio lighting to industry standards, Emergency Medical Technician teacher Justin Lisonbee will purchase a new training mannequin for his class, Cosmetology teacher Lorie Lloyd will purchase supplies required for her students to take their state board exams, and Medical Assistant teacher Brian Winstead will use his grant to provide new technology resources for his classroom.

Lowe’s Heroes
EVIT’s Aviation and Future Engineering students at the Power Road Campus have a new storage shed, work bench, and buckets of tools thanks to Lowe’s Home Improvement store. The donation, valued at $1,000, was made possible by store manager Jacob Foarde and the Lowe’s Heroes program, which helps Lowe’s employees make a difference in their communities.

Brett’s story
When Brett Rudin signed up for EVIT’s Automotive program, he had a passion for cars but knew nothing about rachets and sockets.
